Chaplain to Charles VII, King of France, Okeghem also worked as treasurer of the Collegiate Saint Martin in Tours. In 1460 he composed a mass in honour of his friend and compatriot Gilles Binchois, which also preserves musical traces of the devotion for Saint Martin, the patron saint of the city.
